Unread Library: Chairs & Architects
111 chairs designed by architects & 100 chairs designed by an artist
Welcome to Unread Library a new section inside CC (Creative Drestruction).
I’m not exactly sure when I started collecting magazines and books, probably as a byproduct of being a former graphic designer, or just a creative class rite of passage into adulthood. I love every single piece of publication I’ve acquired or been gifted.. but I gotta admit, some of them haven’t been carefully read and explored.
That’s what this new section is for: I’ll be digging into my personal archive and sharing bits with you. Pretty much that. And if you have recommendations or think there’s something I should check out, feel free to reply, I’d love that.
Here we go
Space Design 9606 111 Chairs Designed by Architects.
I found this Space and Design magazine during my trip to Japan last year. I bought it at a place called Books & Things in Kyoto, a small store owned by a very kind man. His selection was the perfect balance between familiar names and unexpected gems. Sadly this is the only picture I took, I didn’t want to annoy him.
The premise of this issue is very simple and you can see why I picked it: red cover with a Wassily chair and other 110 chairs worth seeing. Here are some of my faves:

When I got back from Tokyo, my bf also arrived from NYC, and he surprised me with this book. You can imagine our faces when we saw what each other had brought. So the second book I’m showing you is: 100 Chairs in 100 Days in 100 Ways by Martino Gamper
The name of the book basically sums up what this artist/designer did in 100 days, using found chairs in the street and also picking some old ones from friends and family. You can learn more about the project and see some of the designs here. Something to comment is the fact that every single page on the book has a chair on display whether it’s the commentary, the intro, or even the credits.
Some other ones I enjoyed
